EG Primary: Everything You Need To Know

The state primary takes place Tuesday, Sept. 11. In East Greenwich, five polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Primary Day: , , , , and . Public schools are closed.

Go to www.sos.ri.gov/vic to find your precinct. Be advised that your precinct number may have changed due to the recent redistricting. If you have questions, check with the Town Canvasser online here, in person at the Town Clerk's office, or by phone at (401) 886-8603.

And a couple other things to keep in mind ... first, you have to show an I.D. at the polls tomorrow. That's a driver's license, a passport, a state-issued I.D. card, or non-photo I.D.'s such as your Social Security or Medicare card. (Non-photo I.D.'s are allowed for elections through 2013.). If you do not have any I.D. at all when you get to the polls, you will be able to cast a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot will be counted if your signature at the polls matches the signature on your voter registration.

Second, polls will close at 8 p.m. Tuesday – that's one hour earlier than in previous elections.

In the U.S. House of Representatives race, four Republican candidates are on the ballot:

In the State Senate District 33 race , two Democratic candidates are on the primary ballot. Dist. 33 covers parts of Coventry, West Greenwich, and East Greenwich. The seat is held by Glenford Shibley, a Republican, who will face the winner of this contest.

In the State House District 30 race, three Republican candidates face off. Dist. 30 covers East Greenwich and part of West Greenwich. The seat has been held by Bob Watson, who is not running for re-election, since 1992. Here's an article on a debate between the three GOP candidates in August:

There are three seats open on the East Greenwich School Committee. Four Democratic candidates are on the ballot. The three top vote-getters will go on to the general election against one Republican – Clark Smith – and one independent – Domenic Marcone.
