EGHS Graduates At Vets In Providence

Time was on the minds of both the salutatorian and the valedictorian for the East Greenwich High School Class of 2013 at Sunday's graduation ceremony.

The inspiration for Salutatorian Jack Payette's speech arrived on Monday, June 3, at 8:48 a.m. He'd just woken up (it was Senior Week, after all) and he realized there were only 15 hours and 12 minutes left in the day and that he'd better make the most of that time.

Valedictorian Christina Lusi took her listeners through the minutes that made up a recent "perfect" Friday. Her underlying message: Go ahead, be invincible.

Best line? 

"Always remember to dream, to push too far and reach to high and laugh too loud, because you will never again be as young and dumb and beautiful, and you owe it to yourself to take advantage of that while there's still time." (You can see additional video of her speech here.)

Another standout moment came when Marielle Kraft took the stage to perform her own song, "Alive." (You can see most of her performance here.)

But of course the best moments for the Class of 2013 were when they, one by one, walked across the regal stage at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Providence, climbing the steps of the stage as high schoolers, stepping down from the stage as graduates.

Congratulations, Class of 2013! Don't be strangers.
