Avenger Home Action: It may be school vacation week, but there are plenty of games taking place, including a slew at home today. Fastpitch Varsity Softball against South Kingstown, at 1 p.m.; Boys Varsity Baseball against Toll Gate at 4 p.m.; Boys Lacrosse against North Kingstown, JV at 4 p.m. and Varsity at 6 p.m.; and Boys Varsity Volleyball against Central at 6:30 p.m. You can follow all the Avenger action at the EG Booster Club website here .

EG Historic Preservation Society meeting: Dr. Patrick T. Conley is the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society. Dr. Conley will discuss his two latest books, "The Makers of Modern Rhode Island," and "People, Places, Laws and Lore of the Ocean State." They are fascinating accounts of the people and events that transformed Rhode Island from an agrarian society to an industrial power. Dr. Conley is a professor at Providence College, practices law and manages a real estate development business. The meeting begins with a potluck supper at 6:30 in the Old Jail, 110 King Street, East Greenwich. Dr. Conley's program begins at 7:30. The event is free and open to the public. Register for the Scott Carlson/ALS 5K: The 13th Annual Scott Carlson Memorial 5K takes place on Saturday, April 20. All proceeds benefit Rhode Island families struggling with ALS. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. with the run/walk at 10 a.m. starting at the bridge by the beach in Goddard Park.
