Johnny Appleseed Day: Really. Here’s what Wikipedia says about him: Jonathan Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845), also known as Johnny Appleseed, was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to large parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. He became an American legend while still alive, largely because of his kind and generous ways, his great leadership in conservation, and the symbolic importance he attributed to apples. Lot of links! But you can celebrate in style – head to Narrow Lane Orchard just over the EG line in North Kingstown (off South Road). They’ve got lots of varieties and it’s just plain beautiful there.

Ten25 at Christ Church: This is Christ Church’s new youth ministry program, ten25 seeks to be a safe place where students can belong, believe, and become disciples of Jesus. ten25 meets on Wednesdays, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at 1025 Main St. All students in grades 6 -12 are welcome.

Local Gloria Gemma 5K runners: Our own Town Clerk Leigh Botello is running in the Gloria Gemma 5K for the third year in a row (on Sunday, Oct. 7), in honor of her friend Christine Tipple Sloan, who died from breast cancer at age 39.
