Cancer walk/run: The Second Annual Esophageal Cancer Walk/Run takes place today at Warwick City Park at 9 a.m. Cost is $25 the day of the walk; children 12 and under and pets walk free. Those who are unable to attend the walk but would still like to donate can visit http://www.salgi.org/donate.
Cupcakes for/with Dad: Bring your child any time from 10 a.m. until noon to decorate two cupcakes as a special sweet gift for Dad! Or, bring Dad and decorate with him! We'll have fun toppers like ties, tools, sports, and more! Limited while supplies last – $10.
Smith’s Castle’s Strawberry Festival: SavorSmith’s Castle’s celebrated strawberry shortcake and pay homage to the humble wild strawberry –- a favorite of the early colonists and the native Narragansett. Delicious strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream will be offered for purchase. Dan Butterwoth’s Marionettes will entertain children of all ages. Other activities for families to enjoy will include pony rides and live animals to pet. The Gift Shop is brimming with new and unique treasures, and local vendors and artisans will be selling their wares. From noon to 4 p.m.

Book signing: Barnes & Noble Warwick is pleased to host Paul F. Caranci for a talk and book signing for the release of his new book “The Hanging and Redemption of John Gordon: The True Story of Rhode Island's Last Execution.” From 1 to 3 p.m.
Civil War reenactment at NEIT: The East Greenwich Free Library and New England Tech are hosting this recreation of an authentic Civil War battlefield encampment, featuring the soldiers, tents and artillery cannons from Battery B, First Regiment Rhode Island Artillery. Stop by this authentic encampment anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and visit with the soldiers in this living history display. The Battery will "fire" their cannons twice that day, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Sunday …
Steak Fry & Karaoke for Dad: American Legion Post 15 is hosting a Father's Day Steak Fry. We'll be firing up our outdoor steak pit and grilling steak and chicken. Bring dad for a great meal and the chance to sing to his heart's content! Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30. Karaoke with Leo B will start at 6:00 PM. Chicken dinner costs $9 per person, steak dinner costs $12.

Town Council meeting: Town employees will be recognized for their anniversaries of employment with the town, including the newest town employees, members of the brand new East Greenwich Fire Department. In addition, there will be a public hearing on adding two new sections to the alcohol ordinance – “Alcoholic Beverage Policy” and “Outdoor Sidewalk Liquor Service.” Oh, it looks like it will be the final Town Council meeting with Town Manager Bill Sequino, who’s last day is July 5.
EG Historic Preservation Society meeting: Dr. Frank Heppner will be a guest at the monthly meeting of the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society Monday. Heppner is a retired professor of biology at URI, but his real passion is railroads. He will talk about the railroads of Rhode Island, the title of his newest book. The meeting begins at 6:30 with a potluck supper at the Society's headquarters, the Old Jail, 110 King St. Dr. Heppner will speak at 7:30. The meeting is free and the public is welcome.
