Five Things: Financial Town Meeting

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, June 11.

Financial Town Meeting: Residents are invited to take part in a vestige of New England’s past, the annual financial town meeting. EG registered voters are eligible to vote “yay” or “nay” on the $58 million budget – if, and it’s a big if, there is a quorum of at least 250 voters. If no quorum is reached, there will be no vote. To read more about the actual budget, click here. There is also a warrant article (off-budget items), which can be seen here. At 6:30 p.m. at the auditorium at East Greenwich High School.

Greenwich Bay Women’s Club meeting: The nonprofit Greenwich Bay Women's Club meets tonight at Atria Harborhill. We will be recognizing Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day. Get on your red, white and blue and come help them make handcrafted cards to send to service men and women. The meeting begins with a social 'meet & greet' from 7-7:30 pm, followed by our regular business meeting. For further information about the meeting or our Club in general, please call Sue at 885-2130 or Laureen at 295-9174.

Living History: The Gettysburg Gun: View an award-winning short documentary and enjoy a lively follow-up discussion led by Capt. Phil DiMaria, a commander in R.I.’s Battery B, a Civil War artillery regiment. At the EG Free Library at 6:30 p.m. Free, but adults only please.

On Wednesday …

Lunchtime Concert: EG Parks & Recreation Department has started a new monthly lunchtime concert series that begins Wednesday. Vintage Rhythm & Blues Ensemble will play on the lawn at Town Hall. All are welcome to come out and listen. Tables and chairs will be set up on the lawn so grab a sandwich from a local restaurant or deli or bring along a bag lunch.

On Thursday …

Main Street Stroll: This month’s stroll is dedicated to flags and dads. Father’s Day is Sunday and Flag Day is Friday. You can get ready to celebrate both Thursday evening between 5 and 8 p.m., when Main Street really comes alive, with all the great shops and restaurants that have put it on the map, plus special vendors and musicians.
