Five Things: Flag Day, Avenger Baseball

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, June 14.

Avenger Baseball vs. NK: The EGHS Boys Baseball team has made it to the final four in D I baseball. They take on North Kingstown tonight at McCarthy Field in West Warwick at 6:30 p.m. Go Avengers!

Goddard Park Farmers Market: The market at Goddard Park is back. It’s a great way to get ready for the weekend. Off Ives Road, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

‘Lincoln,’ at the library: Celebrate Flag Day by watching “Lincoln,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The movie – shown (free!) at the EG Free Library at 1 p.m. – is part of a lead up to Saturday’s Civil War reenactment at New England Tech. You can read about that here.

Teen Center: The Teen Center has provided a great place to hang out on Friday evenings for decades now. They meet at the gym at Eldredge School but you don’t have to play basketball to enjoy the camaraderie. From 6 to 8 p.m.

What makes your dad special? What's special about your dad? Please send me your answer to this question and a photo of you and your dad, if you can. elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com. And check out this video about lessons some have learned from their dads.

On Saturday …

Civil War reenactment at NEIT: The East Greenwich Library and New England Tech are hosting this recreation of an authentic Civil War battlefield encampment, featuring the soldiers, tents and artillery cannons from Battery B, First Regiment Rhode Island Artillery. Stop by this authentic encampment anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and visit with the soldiers in this living history display. The Battery will "fire" their cannons twice that day, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

And …

Volunteers (and donations!) needed: Summer’s End, the concert on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, is everyone’s favorite East Greenwich event. But we need to help make it happen. The Summer’s End organization – SAFO – is looking for volunteers and for donations. You can read all about it here.
