Five Things: Town Employee Recognition

EG Farmers Market: We have a great farmers market right here in town. It's at Academy Field from 3 to 6 p.m.

Town Council meeting: Town employees will be recognized for their anniversaries of employment with the town, including the newest town employees, members of the brand new East Greenwich Fire Department. In addition, there will be a public hearing on adding two new sections to the alcohol ordinance – “Alcoholic Beverage Policy” and “Outdoor Sidewalk Liquor Service.” Oh, it looks like it will be the final Town Council meeting with Town Manager Bill Sequino, who’s last day is July 5. EG Historic Preservation Society meeting: Dr. Frank Heppner will be a guest at the monthly meeting of the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society Monday. Heppner is a retired professor of biology at URI, but his real passion is railroads. He will talk about the railroads of Rhode Island, the title of his newest book. The meeting begins at 6:30 with a potluck supper at the Society's headquarters, the Old Jail, 110 King St. Dr. Heppner will speak at 7:30. The meeting is free and the public is welcome. School Committee meeting: One of the items on the agenda (which you can read here) is appointment of a new director of student services – the person who handles special education among other things. It’s taken nearly a year to find a permanent replacement for Paula Dillon, who took a job last summer with the Barrington School Department.

Trivia Contest @ The Grille: Tuesday night is Trivia Night at the Grille on Main . It’s loads of fun whether you compete with a large group or just with your date. There are prizes every round, as well as a grand prize. The only catch? You have to be there by 8 p.m. to enter.

Volunteers (and donations!) needed: Summer’s End, the concert on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, is everyone’s favorite East Greenwich event. But we need to help make it happen. The Summer’s End organization – SAFO – is looking for volunteers and for donations. You can read all about it here.
