Local VFW Post Donates to Historic Cemetery Cleanup Effort

The VFW Post 8018 has given the East Greenwich Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission a boost.

A group of local volunteers have been clearing brush, removing stumps and bringing the sun back to countless historic graves, one East Greenwich historical cemetery at a time.

Many of the graves belong to veterans of wars, including the Civil War, and their upkeep reflects a desire by members of the East Greenwich Historic Cemetery Advisory Commission to ensure that their lives and resting places are treated with care and respect.

Now, the effort has been buoyed by the VFP Post 8018, who have donated $400 to the cause.

Post Commander Rodney Leighton presented the commission with a check at the commission’s Nov. 3 meeting.

The commission “wasted no time in putting the funds to work,” said Jason Beaumier of the commission, and bought a “Pullerbear” to help remove stumps and saplings.
