Main Street Isn't The Only Place Where Cars Hit Pedestrians
Between March 8 and April 6, there were three incidents involving pedestrians, two at 1000 Division Street, as well as an incident of a skateboarder crashing into a car on Green Street.
Following the hit-and-run accident on Main Street in February in which two pedestrians were hurt, one seriously, police have recorded three incidents in which cars hit pedestrians and one where a skateboarder hit a car.
Only one of those accidents took place on Main Street. Two others took place at the parking lot of East Greenwich Square at 1000 Division Street (the site of Dave's Marketplace, Gold's Gym and Panera Bread, among other stores).
What follows are the police reports from all four incidents:

The driver of the car that hit her, Lucie Hains of Warwick, said she was pulling into a parkign spot in front of Gold’s Gym. She did not see anyone walking but then heard a thud. She stopped immediately and got out to see what had happened and found Murray standing next to her car. Hains said she didn’t know where Murray had come from but that perhaps she had been walking between the parked cars.
Murray said she was walking toward the entrance of Dave’s Market and that she didn’t think the driver saw her. She was hit on the left leg just below the knee. Murray was taken to Kent Hospital for evaluation.
Friday, March 15
This was first reported here on March 19. At around 11:15 a.m., a woman crossing Main Street near the EG Fire Station was hit by a car. According to the accident report, an East Greenwich woman hit a pedestrian from Massachusetts as she was walking in the crosswalk near the EGFD station on Main Street. The driver was turning onto Main Street from Dedford Street at the time of the accident.
The driver told police she was stopped on Dedford Street when a car on Main Street stopped to let her turn onto Main Street. Greene made the turn, driving through the crosswalk, and hit the pedestrian in the knee.
She told police she’d seen the pedestrian and another woman on the sidewalk and hadn’t realized they’d begun to cross the street. The woman who was hit refused medical treatment at the scene. No one was charged.
Thursday, April 4
At around 2:50 p.m., an East Greenwich driver and a skateboarder from Hope Valley collided Green Street at Liberty Street. The man was cut on his right ankle and had cuts and scratches on both arms. His skateboard was cracked down the middle.
The driver said she had been heading west on Green Street (away from Main Street) and saw a large truck pulling out of the CVS parking lot to her left but did not see the skateboarder until they collided.
According to witness statements, the skateboarder had been heading south on Liberty Street, did not stop at Green Street, and “rammed” into the car. Based on the accounts, police issued a Municipal Court summons to the man. Despite his injuries, the man told EG Rescue declined to be taken to the hospital.
Saturday, April 6, at 2:38 p.m.
An East Greenwich woman hit a Coventry woman pushing a shopping cart as she was crossing in front of Dave’s Market. The driver said she had been heading west (toward South County Trail) through the crosswalk and had looked to the right (toward Division Street) for possible traffic coming from that direction when she hit the Coventry woman’s cart.
The Coventry woman was not sure if the car had hit her or just her cart, but she fell, injuring her right knee, her right shoulder, and her face. EG Rescue took her to Rhode Island Hospital.
