Monday Essentials: The Boss, Adoption RI Fundraiser, R.I. Rednecks

EG Farmers Market MONDAY: The market takes place at Academy Field and offers prepared foods (Middle Eastern delights from the Deli or pizza from Bravo), items to grill (seafood from Matunuck Oysters, meats from Pat’s Pastured), and lots of fresh vegetables, as well as sweets baked in someone else’s oven! From 3 to 6 p.m.

Town Council meeting MONDAY: You can see the agenda here. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Springsteen documentary featuring EG woman MONDAY: One of Bruce Springsteen’s biggest fans happens to live in East Greenwich. Lisa Purcell is featured in the documentary “Springsteen & I,” showing at the Showcase Warwick at 7:30 Monday night. A journalist and former NBC producer, Purcell has been a Springsteen fan since she was 7 years old. Springsteen’s music even helped Purcell cope with treatment for thyroid cancer. Today Purcell is cancer free and devotes her time to her blog LeeLee’s Room life & lyrics. You can see the trailer here.

Networking event on TUESDAY: Bring your business cards and a donation and be ready to mingle and soak up the waterfront views at Blu on the Water Tuesday evening starting at 5 p.m. There will be complimentary appetizers, amazing raffle prizes, live music, and a cash bar. It’s free but raffle proceeds and donations will go toward Veteran Angler Charters (a nonprofit organization in R.I., Mass. and Conn.). R.S.V.P. sbagwell@primeres.com

Adoption R.I. Fundraiser at Finn’s Harbourside WEDNESDAY: Adoption Rhode Island's annual Summer Camp Fundraiser takes place Wednesday, July 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Finn's Harborside (fka Harbourside Lobstermania). Treat yourself to an evening on the waterfront with of music, a buffet dinner, and more – all while helping children in Rhode Island state care enjoy a week at summer camp. THURSDAY Concert at Academy: Come on down to Academy Field, located next to the Swift Community Center, for the Summer Concert Series sponsored by EG Parks & Rec. This week the R.I. Rednecks will have you stomping along to some classic Country music. All ages are welcome to attend. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In case of rain the concert will be take place in the Swift Gym. You can get dinner before the concert across the parking lot at St. Luke’s Church. It’s free and all are welcome. The music goes from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The dinner is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Emergency Preparedness workshop SATURDAY: Westminster Unitarian Church is offering a free workshop to help you prepare for hurricane season. Lunch will be provided. To register, go to the church website at www.westminsteruu.org and look for the storm preparation link.
