Obituary: Alfred L. Slingsby, 74

He was an Army veteran, a former member of the East Greenwich Keystone Kops and he enjoyed gardening.


Alfred L. Slingsby, 74, of Warwick and formerly of East Greenwich, a plumber for 25 years before retiring in 2002, died Saturday, June 15, at the home of his son in East Greenwich. He was the husband of LeFrances (Sweatman) Slingsby for 24 years. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Alfred L. Slingsby, Sr. and Amy L. (McMahon) Slingsby.

Mr. Slingsby was an Army Veteran, a former member of the East Greenwich Keystone Kops and enjoyed gardening. Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Debra A. Shearer and her husband, Glen, of Hudson, N.H.; Donna L. Poirier and her husband, Joseph, of Lake Wales, Fla., David A. “Mulli” Slingsby and his wife, Merry-Jane “Honey Boo Boo,” of East Greenwich; Paul M. Constant and his wife, Donna, of Cranston; Denise A. Constant and her partner Nancy Burns of Coa Coa, Fla.; and Henry J. Constant and his wife, Donna, of West Warwick; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ada Wolferden and Ann Taylor.

A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Peirce St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in Knotty Oak Cemetery, Coventry. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Home and Hospice Care of R.I.
