Obituary: Frank Woods, 90, EG Senior Center Advocate
Woods is credited for pushing to create an independent senior center for the town.

Frank Woods died at the age of 90. Born in Fall River, Mass., Frank moved to Queens in New York City. He served in the WWII America Area Campaign as an Aviation Ordnance Man, 2nd Class. After an Honorable Discharge in 1946, Frank had a successful career in advertising sales, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, having served a term as Grand Knight in the local council.
Upon retiring, Frank enjoyed being an advocate for senior citizens issues, and was instrumental in the initial effort to have the Town of East Greenwich rehabilitate the old Swift Gym into the new East Greenwich Senior Center.
, “I think this all comes from one little nugget I brought into a Council meeting back in 2001. I stood up, opened my mouth, and words came out: ‘Why does a town as affluent as East Greenwich have no senior center?’ That’s how it all started. It was just me being a loudmouth and badgering them until they gave in to shut me up.”
