Obituary: Paul E. Brodeur, Esq., 87

A longtime resident of Coventry, Mr. Brodeur also lived in East Greenwich for several years.


Paul E. Brodeur, Esq., 87, formerly of Wood Cove Drive in Coventry, passed away on March 4 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the husband of Rita J. (Gamelin) Brodeur, his wife of 52 years. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late John and Delia (Whitman) Brodeur.

Paul had a successful law practice in West Warwick before retiring in 1984. He was a long-time member of the Board of Trustees of Centreville Bank. Early in his career, Paul served as Probate Judge for the Town of Coventry. He belonged to the Lions Club for many years. Paul served in the US Navy during WWII. He also served in the US Army Reserves holding the rank of Captain. He graduated from URI in 1950 and earned his law degree from Boston University in 1954.

He was the loving father of David E. Brodeur of Coventry; Paula E. Haefner, Esq., of Vienna, Va.; Michelle J. Brodeur of East Greenwich, and Suzanne K. Chevrette of Coventry. He had 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was the brother of the late Jack Brodeur, Maurice Brodeur of Charleston, S.C., Dennis Brodeur of Connecticut, Lucy New of Charleston, S.C. and Rita Hellyer of Union City, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23, at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Internment with military honors in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Veterans Home Activities Department, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809. iannottifh.com
