Police Log: Missing Signs, Thrown Punches

Monday, Sept. 10

4:37 p.m. – Police put down an injured skunk on Proctor Street, using a .22 caliber rifle. DEM arrived on the scene to dispose of the dead skunk.

5:48 p.m. – A Pine Glen Drive resident reported missing political signs. The man said he had put up Michael Riley and Barry Hinkley signs on Sept. 8 in front of the entrance to Pine Glen, a condominium complex off Middle Road and they were now gone.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

A 17-year-old North Kingstown youth was arrested for larceny under $1,500 after he was seen taking an iPod and charger from a car on Post Road. A business owner who knew the car was owned by a neighboring business owner told police the boy was seen walking away from the car. The car’s owner was notified and police called. The case will be handled in family court, according to police.

Thursday, Sept. 13

12:42 a.m. – Police had a car towed that was parked in a No Parking zone on Long Street at Lion Street. A routine check on the registration showed the car’s registration was suspended, in addition the driver, who came on the scene at that time, had a suspended drivers license. Police did not issue a parking ticket because the of the owner’s good attitude, according to the report.

9:12 a.m. – Police stopped a car heading east on Division Street near Route 4 because police could see five small dogs crawling on the driver. After routine checks, police found the car, being driven by an East Greenwich resident, was not registered. The car was towed from the scene. The woman and the five dogs were picked up by a relative.

9:30 p.m. – Police had a car towed that was parked in a No Parking zone on London Street.

Friday, Sept. 14

1:30 p.m. – A Peirce Street resident reported someone has been removing the ballasters from her porch railing in the middle of the night.

3:11 p.m. – Police arrested Ronald Andrews, 50, of Country Drive in West Warwick, on a bench warrant after he was involved in car accident outside the McDonald’s at 1000 Division St. Andrews told police he thought he had an active bench warrant out on him and he was correct. He was processed at the EG police station and taken to the ACI.

Saturday, Sept. 15

1:40 a.m. – Police arrested Thomas Battista, 23, of Marlborough Street, for driving while intoxicated after he ran into a telephone poll on Marlborough Street near London Street. Battista told police he wasn’t injured and said he’d walk home but police detected a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, according to the report. Battista took a field sobriety test and failed it so he was taken into custody. At the station, Battista refused to take a breath test, so police charged him with that as well, and for having alcohol in the car and failing to maintain proper control of his car.

4:19 p.m. – A Meadowbrook Road resident complained about tractor trailer trucks that use his street, damaging property and utility poles. He said GPS systems guide the trucks unto Meadowbrook incorrectly and he would like a “No Through Trucking” sign installed. Police said they would forward his request to DPW and suggested he contact the Town Council.

Sunday, Sept. 16

2:47 a.m. – A Division Road resident told police a guest refused to leave and had tried scratching people when they tried to get her to leave. Police contacted a relative of the woman, who appeared to be very drunk, and dropped her off in Warwick in the care of that relative.

4:54 a.m. – Police arrested Donald Walsh, 36, of Brookside Avenue in West Warwick, for disorderly conduct, and Arthur Fiske, 40, of Ames Street in Coventry, for disorderly conduct and assault and battery after the two men got into a fight at their workplace, a newspaper delivery business on South County Trail. During the fight, another employee tried to intervene and Fiske punched her in the face, she said, resulting in the assault charge for Fiske. Both men were taken into custody and processed at the station.

5:54 a.m. – A Main Street woman said someone's been ringing her doorbell then fleeing and she thinks it's an ex-boyfriend, who also calls her a lot. Police suggested she save any calls she gets from the man and then try to get a No Contact order issued.

11 a.m. – Residents of Carrs Pond Road notified police about a neighbor dispute with owners of an abutting property on Middle Road. The Carrs Pond residents said there was a makeshift campsite between the properties and evidence of a pellet gun shooting range. They thought it was on their property but could find no documentation to verify that assertion. The owner of the Middle Road property said he would have his grandson disassemble the camp.

1:07 p.m. – Police arrested Tyler Cunha, 24, of Hardig Rd., for driving with a suspended license after she was stopped for failing to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Duke and King streets. Routine checks turned up the license suspension so she was processed at the station and released with District and Municipal court summons. Police left her car in the Pal’s Restaurant overnight.

2:47 p.m. – A Brookside Drive resident told police her boyfriend was verbally abusive and she was afraid of him. She showed police texts from him she deemed threatening. Police advised her to seek a restraining order against him. They issued a No Trespass order for him and told the resident to contact them if the man needed to retrieve any belongings.
