Police Log: Illegal Dumping, Stolen iPads, And 'Letting Loose'

Monday, March 11

5:27 p.m. – Police arrested Ronald P. Hieap, 19, of Malcolm Road in North Kingstown, for driving with a suspended license after he was stopped while driving on Main Street because a backseat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. Routine checks turned up the license violation. Police issued a court summons for Hieap and gave him a ticket for the seatbelt violation. The car was towed from the scene.

Tuesday, March 12

2:20 a.m. – Police stopped a silver Lincoln Town Car driving east on First Avenue after running routine checks on the car because its trunk was open. The checks showed the plates belonged to another car. The driver of the car told police her passenger, a man, had recently bought the car and they were planning to register it “in the morning.” The man said he got the plates on the car from a friend. The car was towed from the scene and the driver cited for the registration and license plate violations.

12:56 p.m. – A Crystal Drive resident told police she got an email from a ticket agency in San Francisco thanking her for buying a ticket for an event in Brooklyn, New York. It cited a credit card number, but the resident said she didn’t even have a credit card and she had not placed the order.

2:43 p.m. – A Shady Hill Drive resident complained about dumping on a nearby vacant property. The woman said a truck went up the driveway of the vacant house with logs and stumps in its bed, then came back down the driveway shortly after with no cargo. Police investigated and found numerous piles of yard debris and cut wood about the property.

Thursday, March 14

Police arrested two EGHS students, boys ages 15 and 16, for stealing three iPads from the school. The boys will be handled in Family Court.

2:03 p.m. – A Warwick man who banks at Sovereign Bank in East Greenwich told police someone had deducted approximately $1,200 from his account, making purchases from Walmart.com. The man said he’d gotten a call from Walmart in January about purchases but he initially ignored the calls. After several calls, the man became suspicious. That’s when he learned about the fraudulent purchases.

6:29 p.m. – A police officer on routine patrol noticed a green Subaru doing “donuts” on an open grass field on east side of the 1700 block of Tillinghast Road. He stopped the car and asked the driver what he was doing. The driver said he was “letting loose.” He said he did not know the owner of the field. Police left a message with the property owner.
