Snow Likely Next Week for RI, Severity Still Unclear

It's too early to say how much, but accumulating snow is likely Monday and Tuesday.

After a weekend of digging out and melting, Rhode Island is due for some more snow next week.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Rhode Island and is forecasting “one or two periods” of accumulating snow likely Monday and Tuesday with leftover showers on Wednesday.

It’s too early to tell if the snow will be light “nuisance snow” or a significant winter storm, according to the weather service, but it wouldn’t be surpising to wake up to two- to four-inches by sunrise Tuesday morning.

Local meteorologist Jim Laurie said that the state could see 5- to 9-inches in all during the three-day period, but he also said it’s too early to have much confidence.

“There are too many low pressure systems to account for, the tracks on all these lows may change in the next few days, and the duration of the snowfall may change,” he said.

Meanwhile, thousands of Rhode Islanders are still without electricity after numerous downed trees and power lines due to the wet heavy snow that brought 4- to 12-inches of snow to Rhode Island on Friday.
