Student Arrested For Bomb Threat At High School

A note found last Wednesday afternoon stated a bomb would be detonated before the end of the day.

Police arrested a 16-year-old East Greenwich High School student on Wednesday, March 20, for leaving a handwritten bomb threat in a classroom. There was no bomb, according to the police report.

Supt. Victor Mercurio said a student found a note at approximately 1:20 p.m., March 20, stating a bomb would be detonated at the high school before the end of the day. Mercurio said the student immediately turned the note over to the school resource officer and school administration. After a "rapid" investigation – about 10 minutes – the student who wrote the note was identified and he confessed.

"Apparently, the handwriting was quite unique and this led to the swift resolution of the matter," said Mercurio via email Tuesday night.
