Traffic Violation Leads To Marijuana Bust

A California man caught the trooper's eye when he allegedly drove too close to the car ahead.

WEST GREENWICH, RI — Troopers seized 52 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $60,000 during a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in West Greenwich on Sunday, state police said.

The driver, Xia Ofeng Wang, 47, of Alhambra, Calif., was arrested and charged with manufacture/possession/delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance (marijuana), 5 kilograms or greater; and delivery/possession with intent to deliver a Schedule I/II controlled substance. He was held overnight at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending arraignment in Third Division District Court later today.

Troopers initially pulled him over on I-95 north near Weaver Hill around 11 a.m. for traffic violations. He was also cited for interval between vehicles – following too close – and laned roadway violations.
