5 Things to Know About This Weekend

Showers through Sunday; 'Townie Project' pasta dinner; 'Townie Project' 5K road race; Night to Fight Cancer; libraries closed all weekend.

Here are five things you should know about for Memorial Day weekend in and around East Providence.

  1. Rain showers are expected through Sunday with temperatures only getting up into the mid 50s on Saturday and Sunday; the rain will leave for Memorial Day on Monday with temperatures reaching about 70 degrees.
  2. The “Townie Project” pasta dinner fundraiser starts at 5:30 pm at the East Providence High School, 2000 Pawtucket Ave.; money will help to restore the high school gymnasium.
  3. The “Townie Project” also hosts a 5K road race and festival on Saturday starting at 9 am at the high school.
  4. Bovi’s Tavern, 287 Taunton Ave., holds a Night to Fight Cancer on Saturday with the Relay for Life Dream Team starting at 8 pm; proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
  5. Weaver and the Riverside branch libraries will be closed Memorial Day weekend -- Saturday May 25, through Monday, May 27.
