Fire Station Rebuilding Well Underway

East Providence Acting Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian expects work on Fire Stations 1 and 4 to be completed by the end of the year and within budget.

The rebuilding of two fire stations in East Providence is well underway, with target dates for completion in sight. And the work is within budget.

“We’re moving right along on Fire Station 4,” said Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian last Friday. “Framing should be done within two weeks.”

“We’re not quite as far along on Fire Station 1,” he said. “But asbestos is out of the building. And steel should rise within two weeks.”

Fire Station 1 at 66 Wampanoag Trail is practically being rebuilt with a third engine bay and a second floor. Fire Station 1 at 913 Broadway is getting an addition to the second floor and completely renovated residential and administrative facilities.

Total cost of the work is around $4.9 million: $2.9 million for Fire Station 1 and $2 million for Fire Station 4. The money is coming from an Assistance to Firefighters Grant of about $6.4 million under the federal American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009. 

Iron Construction Group of Warwick is the contractor for Fire Station 1. The Bailey Group in Cranston is the contractor for Fire Station 4. William Starck Architects is the designer for both projects.
