Jorge M. Pacheco, 88, Azorean Native

His calling hours are today and his funeral is Saturday from the Rebello Funeral Home in East Providence.

Jorge M. Pacheco, of James St., East Providence, died surrounded by his family at the Philip Hulitar Hospice on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013. He was 88.

He was the beloved husband of Zelia (Cabral) Pacheco. Born Oct. 3, 1924, in Horta, Faial, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio Silveira Pacheco and Isaura Celeste (Medina) Pacheco.

Pacheco worked for 23 years at B.A. Ballou and at the Lajes Air Force Base in Terceira, Azores, before coming to the US. He loved dancing, his dogs and gardening, but was the happiest when he was surrounded by his family.

In addition to being survived by his wife of 50 years, he was the loving Pai of Isaura Pereira and her husband David of East Providence, Jorge A. Pacheco and his wife Rosa of Pawtucket and Laurie Mancini and her husband Attilio also of Pawtucket; Vavo of Zachary, Joshua, Nicole, Jillian, Liza, Sarah, Nathan and Katelyn; and Vozinho of Ava, Olivia, Max, Sophia, Mason and Gabriella.

He was also the brother of the late Maria Magalhaes, Jose Pacheco, Filomena Castro, Antonio Pacheco, Maria Emilia Leal, Olivia daRosa Goulart, Maria Angela Saldanha, Joao Medina, Alfredo Pacheco and Isaura Rodrigues.

His funeral will begin Saturday at 9:45 am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse St., Providence. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Calling hours are today from 4-8pm.
