Man, 56, Charged With Assault on Police Officer
Scuffle with East Providence police officers turns into assault and battery charge.

A 56-year-old East Providence man was charged with simple assault last Saturday evening, Sept. 21, after a scuffle with several police officers.
Mark J. Ginalski, of 48 Circle St., allegedly had been drinking before several police officers arrived at his home around 11 pm in response to a call about his behavior with his family. He reportedly began screaming and yelling obscenities at the police officers as soon as they walked in to confront him.
A confrontation with one of the officers in the kitchen soon turned into a struggle when Ginalski allegedly tried to push past the officer while continuing to berate them with profanity. The officer reportedly had to fight with Ginalski to handcuff him.

Ginalski continued to struggle with the officers as they placed him in the rear of a police car to transport him to the police station to be arraigned, according to the police report. He also allegedly began to claim that he suffered injuries to his knee and back and had chest pains.
EMTs were called to check out his injury claims, according to the police report. He began demanding to be taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Ginalski eventually was charged with simple assault and battery against a police officer and given a date to appear in District Court to face the charge.
