Here some things you should know about for this week, Sept. 16-22, in and around East Providence:
Showers today will clear out for the rest of the week with sunny skies taking over and temperatures gradually rising each day to highs from the mid 60s to low 70s by the end of the week.
The East Providence City Council holds its second September meeting on Tuesday starting at 7:30 pm in the Council Chambers in City Hall.

East Bay Citizens for Peace presents “Guns: Public Policy, Politics and Law,” a talk by Professor Carl T. Bogus of Roger Williams University School of Law, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 pm in the Barrington Public Library auditorium. Professor Bogus will discuss the issues of gun control and gun rights in America including why gun control is so politically difficult to achieve.
AYSO holds competitive tryouts today and Wednesday at Martin Middle School at 5 pm for its indoor winter and spring sessions in 2014. The U8, U10, and U12 are today; the U14 and U16 tryouts are Wednesday. The cost is $17 for all players not registered with AYSO.
