Monday Essentials: Swing Band Concert; New Recycling Starts

Here are some things you should know about this week, Sept. 9-15, in and around East Providence:
- A mostly sunny week awaits with temperatures ranging from the low to high 70s each day; there could be scattered thunderstorms mid-week.
- East Providence’s new automated recycling program starts today. Put out your recyclables in the new blue 95-gallon barrels on your regular trash collection day and then do it again every two weeks under the new schedule for recyclables.
- The Strictly Sentimental Swing Band performs a free concert at the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Ave., today at 7 p.m., accompanied by vocalist Mara Castle. The free concert and dance is sponsored by the Weaver Library, 41 Grove Ave.
- The Rhode Island Philharmonic in East Providence is offering two sessions of "Music Together," a family class, next Monday, Sept. 16, at Weaver Library, but you need to register for the 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. classes this week at 434-2453 or http://www.ri-philharmonic.org/.
- The Weaver Library and the Riverside Branch Library host a variety of activities each week for children and adults; click here to find out what’s going on each day.
