RI Drunk Driver Sips Mike's Hard Lemonade At Crash Scene: Cops

Scituate police said Justin Tartaglia was drunk when he crashed his car and stayed at the scene and drank a Mike's Hard Lemonade.

SCITUATE, RI — A drunk Rhode Island man who crashed his car in Scituate last week stayed at the crash scene and drank a Mike's Hard Lemonade, according to police. Justin Tartaglia, 20, of Warwick, was arrested Friday and charged with a host of crimes.

Scituate police Chief Donald Delaere said Tartaglia crashed into a utility pole on Route 116 at about 6:30 a.m.

"(Tartaglia) first appeared to be trying to leave the scene but then decided to remain at the crash scene and started to drink a Mike's Hard Lemonade," Delaere said in a statement.

Officers encountered Tartaglia and ordered him to perform a field sobriety test — he performed "poorly," Delaere said, adding officers found more Mike's Hard Lemonade in his vehicle along with a kitchen knife.

Tartaglia was charged with driving under the influence, transporting alcohol as a minor, illegal weapon possession and two counts of having false identification, among other charges. He refused to submit to a chemical intoxication test, Delaere said.
