Voters Adopt Mayor-Council Form Of Government
Voter turnout was 3.2 percent on Tuesday, and all six ballot questions passed.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI—On Tuesday, 1,100 people went to the polls to vote in the Special Referenda Election. Six questions to amend the charter were on the ballot. All six passed. The big news was that East Providence has voted to change to a council-mayor form of government. Here are the questions.
Question 1 asked voters if the Mayor's term should be four years. The answer was Yes by 811 to 276.
Question 2 asked if the Mayor, council members and school committee members should be subject to recall. It passed 997-98.

Question 3 asked about adopting the mayor-council form of government. Voters approved by 857-235.
Question 4 asked about appointments to various boards. It passed 817-272.

Question 5 dealt with the Finance Department and Fund Balance. That question also passed 837-228.
Question 6 asked about updating the charter to reflect current practices. Voters agreed 914-157.
