Johnston Police Identify Man Killed In Crash Tuesday
The 47-year-old victim was a Providence resident and had a "lengthy criminal record," Johnston police said.

JOHNSTON, RI — Johnston police have identified the man killed in car crash on Route 6 on Tuesday night. David Johnson, 47, of Providence, was a passenger in a car that sped off after an officer tried to stop it for traffic violations. A high speed chase resulted, and the driver lost control and hit a guard rail near the Hartford Avenue exit in Providence. Johnson was ejected. He died at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police are still investigating the incident and do not know why the driver refused to stop.
"We are still gathering additional information," deputy Chief Joseph Razza said in a press release,"but it was revealed that both the operator of the vehicle and his passenger had lengthy criminal histories."
