After the Storm, What is Next

On Tuesday, Middletown began the clean up after Hurricane Sandy, after its winds threw trees, utility poles and the ocean's water throughout the beaches and town.

Today, Red Cross will send 500 hot meals to Aquidneck Island for those with out power or otherwise in need.  They will operate out of a red cross vehicle at the Middletown Library at 700 west main road. They should be arriving at 11:45 a.m.

"We were able to address getting the Atlantic Beach area and the majority of the large trees and limb issues in the neighborhoods cleaned up today," said Town Administrator Shawn Brown late Tuesday night. 

Although the storm left almost 6,000 customers without power, National Grid reported only 203 households remain in the dark on Wednesday morning.

National Grid asks customers still without power should call 800-322-3223 to report the outage.

Brown said the only remaining road with a tree blocking it is Indian Avenue.

"We will start down at the beaches tomorrow," said Brown. He said it could take a couple of days to get the area passable.

The final financial impact of the storm has not been completed.
