Festival Choral Evensong Of Gratitude Planned At St. George's School
The free event is set for Feb. 5.

On Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. the Professional Choristers of The Choir School of Newport County, joined by students from St. George’s School, Salve Regina University, and adult singers from Newport’s Episcopal churches, will sing a Festival Choral Evensong of Gratitude in Epiphany, directed by Dr. Barry Rose OBE, at St. George’s School Chapel, 372 Purga tory Road, Middletown. Works performed will include A grateful Heart by Mary Plumstead, Evening canticles by Joanna Forbes L’Estrange, and by Dr. Rose, God be with you till we meet again, along with organ music and three congregational hymns.

The guest director, Dr. Barry Rose is one of England’s foremost retired cathedral musicians. He served at Guildford Cathedral (1960-74), St. Paul's Cathedral, London (1974-84) and St. Albans Cathedral (1988-97), as well as twenty years at the BBC, as Music Adviser to the Head of Religious Broad casting. For his distinguished career as organist, conductor, and choirmaster around England, Dr. Rose was honored by the Queen and appointed The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1998. He led The Choir School of Newport County in their educational two week tour of England in 2018, and was presented in a teatime lecture of reminiscences from his ca reer by the Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County in 2018 as a fundraiser for that tour.
There is no admission charge. A free-will offering is received for the ongoing grateful work of the Choir School of Newport County, founded in 2014 to form lives of character and service through the joy and discipline of intergenera tional choral music.
