MIDDLETOWN, RI— Animals at the Simmons Farm on West Main Road in Middletown are under quarantine due to an illness that followed petting zoo events last month. According to the state Department of Environmental Management, two adults and one child came down with diarrhea and were diagnosed with cryptosporidiosis. They said they'd had contact with the goats at the farm. The health department is investigating the connection. Meantime, people who went to the farm within the last month should know the symptoms, which include "abdominal pain and cramping, which can be accompanied by dehydration, weight loss, fever, nausea, and vomiting," the DEM said.
