Middletown Officer Charged With Domestic, Placed On Investigative Suspension

State police arrested Lt. Richard Gamache, of the Middletown Police, on Oct. 14.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—State police arrested a Middletown officer on Oct. 14, deputy police Chief Ferenc Karoly said Monday. Lt. Richard Gamache was charged with one count of Domestic Simple Assault. The charge is connected to an incident that happened while Gamache was off-duty. He has been "placed on investigative suspension and removed from duty pending" the outcome of the case, Karoly said per the Law Enforcement Officer’s Bill of Rights.

"We are not able to comment further on an open investigation," he said. "We will update the public with the results of that investigation once it is concluded."
