Man Said he Accidentally Choked his Girlfriend, Punched New Boyfriend

Matthew Watts, 21, of Middletown, was arrested on Sunday around 5:00 p.m. after he allegedly repeatedly punched a man in the face and threw a chair at him. Police said he also destroyed a Verizon electrical box.   Watts allegedly said he “lost control” when he went to his ex-girlfriend’s house to get some things and her new boyfriend was making fun of him.

The ex-girlfriend told police Watts had choked her during a fight two weeks ago.  Watts told police he accidentally choked her while they were fighting and he did not choke her as hard as he could.  He reportedly promised he would never do it again.

Police charged Watts with simple assault and willful trespass.
