NACTC Cyber Teams Score Big in National Competition
NACTC's Three Teams Place in the Top 3%, Top 9%, and Top 11%
Newport, RI – April 27, 2025 – The weekend's heavy rain didn’t stop them! Eleven cyber security students from the Newport Area Career Tech Center (NACTC) battled college and high school teams from across the country in the National Cyber League’s “team game” — a major cybersecurity competition at CCRI-Newport — and did very well.
Facing competition from 4,795 other teams, NACTC’s three teams placed in the Top 3%, Top 9%, and Top 11%.
Out of all the teams, the seven member Varsity team placed 116th, the four member Junior Varsity team placed 526th, and the AOIT 1 team placed 432nd .

“It was challenging but enlightening,” said one student. “We worked hard and learned so much.”
Their coach, Mr. Anthony Hanos, a NACTC teacher at Rogers High School, said the students’ success shows what hard work and teamwork can do. " The students have been working hard, meeting with their mentor, George Hughey, and me almost every Saturday since October. It has been inspiring to see their growth throughout the year."

Cybersecurity isn’t just for technology experts—it’s now essential in nearly every industry. With more than 75 well-paying cyber security jobs currently open within 50 miles of Newport—many starting at $80,000—these students are preparing for bright futures in a booming field.
Rogers High School and NACTC are helping lead the way, offering programs that give students hands-on skills for real-world careers, with pathways to continue their education at CCRI, Rhode Island College, or URI.
NACTC students are showing that with talent, training, and determination, they’re ready to meet the future.
