Newport Rhode Races Set For Saturday
The marathon starts and ends in Newport but goes through Middletown. There's also a half-marathon and a 5K.

MIDDLETOWN, RI—The Rhode Races start at Easton's Beach at 7:30 a.m. The marathon goes off first at 7:30 a.m., followed by the half-marathon at 7:45 and the 5K at 8 a.m. Click here for details about the course and parking. Middletown police said part of the marathon goes through the Town. They are asking drivers to use care or seek alternate routes to avoid the runners. The police anticipate the marathoners will be in Middletown from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The Newport leg of the race goes down Memorial Drive and makes its way to Fort Adams and then back to Easton's Beach before continuing into Middletown. Click here for the turn-by-turn directions. It will enter Middletown "at the Beach line on Purgatory Road," police said.
The course will go east on Purgatory road, right onto Tuckerman Ave, right onto Purgatory Road, (east end of Tuckerman Ave), right onto Sachuest Point Road all the way to the Sachuest Point Wildlife Refuge. Runners will turn around and head west on Sachuest Point Road, right onto Hanging Rock Road, north on Indian Avenue to Black Point in Portsmouth. The runners will then turn around and head south on Indian Avenue, South onto Hanging Rock Road right onto Sachuest Point Road and head west. The runners will then make a left onto Tuckerman Avenue, left onto Purgatory Road and end at Easton’s Beach in Newport.
