Newport Schools Warn of "Winter Sports Poster" Scam Letters Sent to Businesses

Scam alert — Newport County businesses have received mailed invoices for a Rogers High School "Winter Sports Poster" that doesn't exist.

Newport school officials are sounding the alarm after Newport County businesses have received letters from a company named Sports Media seeking payment for a purported winter sports poster that doesn’t exist.

Businesses have been receiving letters with “William S. Rogers High School - 2015-2016 Winter Sports Poster” on the letterhead and a payment form that asks for checks to be sent to an address in Towson, Maryland.

“Any approved Rogers fundraiser only asks for checks to be made payable directly to the school, never to an outside agency,” the school district said in a Friday news release.
