13th Annual Decubellis Race This Sunday
The 13th annual Katie Decubellis Memorial Foundation 5k Road Race and Walk is this weekend – have you registered?
Come rain or shine, hundreds of New Englanders join forces on Sunday, June 10 for the 13th annual KDMF 5K Road Race and Walk, which has grown throughout Rhode Island.
The relatively flat, certified course winds through beautiful Narragansett and welcomes runners and walkers of all skill levels.
The half-day event is a celebration of the life of Katie DeCubellis, a 13-year-old Narragansett teen tragically killed by a drunk driver on October 29, 1999.

“Although last year we had rain for the first time during the race, we are hoping to rebound with good weather this year and continue Katie’s legacy by, once again, bringing the community together to celebrate her life and the accomplishments of the KDMF. The event is always fun and memorable,” said Katie’s parents, John and Meg DeCubellis.
To date, The KDMF has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships, prizes and donations. John and Meg have given presentations in schools and conferences throughout the country, reaching more than 100,000 students and adults.

Their message focuses on the choices each of us make every day, and how those choices can and will shape our lives, for better or worse.
In addition to a competitive race and walk, the event is family friendly. Attractions include face painting, an inflatable bounce house, free Brickley’s ice cream, pizza, hot dogs, raffles and music. Among the raffle prizes are an autographed Providence Bruins stick, four P-Bruins game tickets and two P-Bruins hats.
Each year the event attracts hundreds of people and we hope to make this year even better! Everyone is encouraged to remain after the race to socialize and have fun. Kids and their parents will find plenty of activities for a fun family outing.
The race will begin and end at Narragansett High School. Race day registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K run and walk gets under way at 9:30 a.m.
Online registration is available at the KDMF web site. For race day registration or any applications postmarked after June 6, the fee will be $20.
Awards and prizes will be given to the first three men and women runners in several age divisions from 10 to 70+ years, as well as a wheelchair division. T-shirts will be provided to the first 500 registered participants. For more information, log onto www.kdmf.org.
