2 Men Charged With DUIs Overnight In South Kingstown

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Two people were arrested in South Kingstown Sunday and Monday after police said they were caught drunken driving.

"These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of the South Kingstown Police Department to ensure the safety of our community by apprehending individuals who choose to drive under the influence," Police Chief Matthew Moynihan said. "We remain committed to reducing the incidence of impaired driving through enforcement and education."

Around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, officers pulled over Timothy Jackson, 26, of South Kingstown, after he was seen speeding and driving erratically, police said. Police said Jackson had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech when they spoke with him.

According to police, Jackson refused to submit to a field sobriety test and resisted arrest. He started fighting with officers, and police said they needed to use pepper spray to subdue him.

Jackson was charged with DUI, simple assault and battery, resisting arrest, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Police said he was taken to South County Hospital for decontamination and was later released on personal recognizance. Jackson is scheduled to appear in Fourth Division District Court on Aug. 15.

The second arrest happened around 3:13 a.m. Monday. Police said Aidan Ocampo, 22, of Cumberland, crashed his car into a utility truck conducting emergency repairs on Bridgetown Road.

Police said Ocampo smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He also had empty bottles of alcohol in the car, police said.

According to police, Ocampo refused to take a field sobriety test, but agreed to a breath test. Police said Ocampo's blood-alcohol levels were 0.112 and 0.106.

Ocampo was charged with DUI of liquor (first offense). Police said he will be arraigned in Fourth Division District Court.
