5 THINGS: Maybe Thunder Will Not Invalidate This
Between the Oklahoma City Thunder beating the Spurs, and all of this rain, it's a good week for weather.
Here are the (more than) Five Things for Thursday, June 7, 2012:
High school sports playoff fever, catch it! Here's the schedule for today and a roundup of recent games:
- It looks like the Division II softball game between Prout and East Greenwich wasn't played yet. It was scheduled for Wednesday night, but rain most likely delayed it, since the RIIL and The Providence Journal haven't posted results yet. A make-up date also isn't on the schedule yet. Keep up to date with the bracket here.
- Similarly, The Providence Journal writes that the rain has made a mess of the Division I baseball bracket. South Kingstown vs. Pilgrim was rained out Wednesday, and Thursday is Pilgrim's graduation, so the game is now scheduled for Friday at Pilgrim. As a result, the Final Four – if SK qualifies by beating Pilgrim – would start on Saturday at the earliest.
- In the Division II baseball playoffs, Narragansett hosts Juanita Sanchez at 4 p.m. today. The Mariners beat Juanita Sanchez 3-2 last week, but were bounced to the loser's bracket for a rematch by Woonsocket. If Narragansett wins, they get a rematch with Woonsocket, although they'll need to win two games to advance to the Division II Final Four.
- Also in the Division II baseball playoffs, Prout hosts West Warwick at 3:15 p.m. today. Prout needs to win one of two games against the Wizards to advance to the Final Four, having survived the winner's bracket.
- The correct boys' volleyball brackets have been posted on the RIIL site. In Division I, South Kingstown hosts the winner of Coventry and the play-in tiebreaker, Mount St. Charles and La Salle, 7:30 p.m. on June 13.
This is not about traffic circles. The Wakefield Rotary Club 12:15 p.m. today at Liliana's Italian Restaurant.

What a glorious day for the human race! On this day in 1982, Graceland opened for business. (Kids, if you don't know what that is, go ask your parents, so that you can watch them have a good cry.)
Purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka. Happy birthday to Prince, who turns 54 today. The section about his personal life is especially awesome: “Over the years Prince has been romantically linked with many celebrities, including Kim Basinger, Madonna, Vanity, Sheila E., Carmen Electra, Susanna Hoffs, Anna Fantastic, Sherilyn Fenn, and Susan Moonsie of Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6.” Anna Fantastic? Apollonia 6??? Prince, you animal.
