5 THINGS: No, Seriously, Lacrosse Championship Tonight (Maybe?)

Assuming it doesn't rain too much, the Division II boys' lacrosse championship with SK vs. EG is tonight. (So basically, it's 50-50.)

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, June 5, 2012:

Division II boys’ lacrosse championship today (finally, maybe). Assuming the weather finally, seriously cooperates, South Kingstown will play at Rhode Island College against East Greenwich for the Division II lacrosse title. Keep your eyes peeled to Patch and the RIIL website, for weather and field updates – there has been some talk of moving the game from RIC to another facility if the field conditions are too poor.

Playoff fever, catch it! Despite the rain, there have been some playoff games played here and there. Here’s a look at the brackets:

  • In Division I baseball, South Kingstown at Pilgrim 4 p.m. today, with the winner advancing to the state championship Final Four. The Rebels had a chance to advance earlier against Pilgrim, but lost 11-10 at home. The Final Four is scheduled to begin Friday.
  • Rain has seemed to play the most havoc with the Division II baseball bracket, with several teams still in the quarterfinals. Narragansett plays hosts the winner of North Smithfield and Juanita Sanchez in a losers’ bracket game on Wednesday. Prout hosts the winner of West Warwick and Exeter-West Greenwich at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Prout needs to win just one of two games against that team to make the Final Four.
  • In Division II girls’ softball, the Prout School plays East Greenwich 5 p.m. Wednesday. Prout beat Exeter-West Greenwich 13-8 to advance. The winner of Wednesday’s game advances to the semifinals of the winner’s bracket – two wins from a state title – while the loser goes to the loser’s bracket.

The Transit of Venus at Ninigret Park. Take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Venus pass between the Earth and the Sun, since it won’t happen again until December 11, 2117. Ninigret Park in Charlestown will be hosting from 4 p.m. to 6:40 p.m., and the actual transit is at 6:44 p.m. For more information, there is always Wikipedia.

It’s bocce season at the Center! Curling is for freaks on ice, croquet is for the snobby Judge Smails, and horseshoes are for hicks, so please focus on the true sport of kings, bocce. The of the Center meets every Tuesday at 10 a.m.

No werewolves allowed either. There will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buckley Heating and Cooling.
