5 THINGS: Three Local Teams Play for Titles

South Kingstown baseball and boys' volleyball, and Prout baseball, have all made the finals.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, June 13, 2012:

South Kingstown faces Hendricken for the Division I baseball title. The best-of-three series starts 6:30 p.m. tonight at McCoy Stadim in Pawtucket. Going up to the game? Let us know in the comments section. We’re also definitely looking for photos to run afterward – send them to Stephen.greenwell@patch.com. I have the strangest sense of déjà vu. The Prout Crusaders will try to avoid becoming the Buffalo Bills +1, as they’ve advanced to the Division II baseball finals again. This will be the fifth straight year that the Crusaders play for the title, but they’re 0-4 in their previous attempts. However, the program has come a long way since the 0-18 record they posted in 2004, their first year as a baseball program. In their way are the Johnston Panthers, just like in 2011. The Prout game starts at 3:30 p.m. at McCoy Stadium, the front half of the doubleheader with SK vs. Hendricken. Prout beat Woonsocket 3-2 to advance to the finals, according to The Providence Journal, and thanks again to Larry Lambrecht for the great pictures from the game.

Deja déjà vu. Speaking of déjà vu… South Kingstown will also face Hendricken for the Division I volleyball title. The Hawks and Rebels spike off (because it’s volleyball, get it?) 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. SK beat Coventry 3-1 on Tuesday night. And completely unrelated from sports… will be at Narragansett Town Beach at 6 p.m. tonight. Splurge on some interesting food, which, as the name implies, is made in a truck!

I would like to receive your periodical on a full-time daily basis. If that's the case, then you can get it in your e-mail box, bright and early each morning, by going here.

Blogging, events, letters, what more could you want? Many people often ask me, “Hey are you the Patch guy?” And the answer is yes, yes I am. Then, most often they want to know how they can get things on the site. Let me present you with three options:

  • The easiest way for me is if you use our blog form. If you have a user account, congrats! You can submit directly to our queue by going here. For more info on blogging, go here.
  • If you think your item is more appropriate for the events calendar, that's a simple enough process as well. Go here, and then hit the “Add An Event” button at the bottom of the page. (Note: You might want to search for your event first, since we do have a calendar editor that adds things on her own awesome initiative.)
  • Finally, do you need some input before posting? Or do you have a release that is more of a traditional “letter to the editor” thing? Fine then – send it along to me, either at stephen.greenwell@patch.com or narragansett@patch.com.

Space: The Final Frontier. On this day in 1983, Pioneer 10 became the first man-made object to leave the Solar System, as it flew past the orbit of Neptune. Amazingly, even though it was launched in March 1972, we didn’t lose contact with it until January 2003, when it was 12 billion kilometers from Earth.
