Annual Beach Wrestling Tournament Coming Friday
The fifth annual Battle on the Beach will feature hundreds of area wrestlers in a variety of age divisions grappling as Narragansett Beach to find out who's best.
Think you've got the best technique, strength and speed in South County? Come try your hand at beach wrestling then, Friday, June 24 at Narragansett Beach.
Sponsored by the Narragansett Parks and Recreation Department, the fifth annual Rhode Island Wrestling Association Battle on the Beach starts with registration at the North Beach pavilion from noon to 1 p.m. A rules clinic will be held at 1:20 p.m., followed by the first matches of the day at 1:30 p.m.
Wrestlers will be sorted in intermediate, novice, middle school, high school and open divisions. The weight classes are light, heavy and ultimate, with specific weight ranges determined the day of the event based on participants.

This is the same weekend as the Quonset Air Show. First aid is available on site for all competitors. The entry fee is $10, and a USA Wrestling card is required. Check out www.themat.com for more information on beach wrestling.
The 2011 U.S. Beach National Wrestling Championship and World Team trials will be held in Rochester, NY on July 9 and July 10.
