Chariho Mom Starts 'Go Fund Me' Page For Potts Family

Cynthia Niles started the page to raise money for Maddie's family. Her daughter and Maddie were friends.

CHARLESTOWN, RI — Cynthia Niles, a Chariho school parent, has started a Go Fund Me page for the family of Maddie Potts. Maddie, the captain of the girls' varsity soccer team, suffered a fatal aneurism during a soccer match with Middletown. Niles is raising money to help pay funeral expenses.

"I am friends with the Potts family as my oldest daughter was good friends with Maddie," she said. Her youngest daughter also plays on the middle school team with Maddie's sister Julia.

"Our community has been wonderful during this time," Niles said. "The school and community support has been amazing. This has been a huge blow to our community but the Pott's family has been role models for all the students showing them how to move forward in Maddie's name. They attended the first high school girls soccer game not even a week after their daughter passed away on that field. They did it to support Maddie's teammates. It's been amazing. Scholarship funds have been set up through the Chariho Boosters, bumper stickers and t shirts have been made. I started this go Fund me to directly support the family. The funeral alone cost over $14,000. I knew so many wanted to help them personally but didn't know how to. 100% of the go Fund me will go to the Potts family directly as they ease into a very different life."

In three days, the fund raised $15,807. For the page, click here.
