'Good Samaritans' In Route 4 Fatal Accident Surface

The man and woman who performed CPR on the pregnant Sullynette Sanchez are Peter Bellone of New Jersey and his daughter Amanda Bellone.

Two good Samaritans who gave CPR to 23-year-old Sullynette Sanchez on Friday, Sept. 28, after an accident on Route 4 in East Greenwich, have come forward.

Sanchez later died at Kent Hospital. She had been seven months pregnant at the time of the accident. Her baby – a boy – was delivered at Kent Hospital and transferred to the intensive care unit at Women and Infants. According to social media reports, he is stable.

“If they were there that quick, before first responders,” said State Police Captain Frank Castellone according to a story on WPRI.com. “We would be interested in interviewing them to see if they witnessed anything prior to witnessing the crash."

Castellone told WPRI a third eyewitness told State Police about a man and a woman who were trying to help Sullynette Sanchez.

“Apparently they were assisting with CPR to the victim,” he said. Since then, state police have learned the identities of the two "good samaritans" – the two Bellones.

Peter Bellone left two comments on East Greenwich Patch's initial story about the accident, saying he and his daughter tried to help Sanchez before East Greenwich Rescue arrived.

"My daughter and I are EMT's and she is a URI RN," he wrote. "We attempted to save Sully when we stopped for the accident. We pulled her from the car and did CPR immediately. We are happy the baby is alive and pray he lives. We are sorry we could not save her but hope her child is OK."

Contacted by EG Patch late last week, Bellone said it was tough, maybe more for him than for his daughter.

"Amanda went to the wake Wednesday night. She is handling it well. I’m still a little PTSD’d out about it. We have done CPR plenty of times before but this was my youngest patient. She was my daughter’s age and she was pregnant," he said via email. Bellone, a retired Marine, works as a commercial lighting engineer in New Jersey.

State Police are still investigating the accident. Castellone said he hoped to have additional information this week.
