Gusty Winds, Low Humidity Raise Fire Danger In RI

RHODE ISLAND — Spring has sprung in Rhode Island, bringing with it concerns over fire danger on Tuesday.

Gusty winds. combined with relatively low humidity led to an elevated fire risk across the region, the National Weather Service said. The humidity is expected to drop to 15 to 20 percent Tuesday, the agency said, combined with wind gusts up to 40 mph. These conditions could outdoor fires to spread quickly.

"Open burning is not recommended today," the NWS said. "Be careful when handling and disposing of ignition sources outdoors, such as cigarettes or matches."
