Let's Go After the Big Fish and Not the Small Fish.
Our Elected Leaders, Senators, Representatives, and Town Council members Need To Fight For What Is Right, And NOT Fight fo What Is Wrong.
In a recent a SC Independent Newspaper article titled, A little bit of compromise would do Narragansett Town Council good, Bill Seymour wrote an article regarding our Town Council reaching a compromise on 3-hour time limited parking along the Ocean Road Seawall. He notes the Town Council does not have much common sense as it tried to put up signage that was against the wishes of the area businesses and its residents. He adds, the political common sense seems to have been washed out to sea by that ocean along the seawall. He adds, The Narragansett Town Councils in past and now presently took on library officials a few years ago, the Speaker of the House of Representatives over a rental ordinance, businesses that help bring in tax revenue, tourists to feed a hungry local economy-and now seawall parking in an election year. I do agree with Bill on all of the aforementioned comments. I do not know what it is with our elected Town Council as they Fight for What is Wrong, and they Fail To Fight for What is Right. The one criticism I have with Bill's article is that he appears to side in with Representative Carol Hagan McEntee's position on having signs on Ocean Road on the opposite side of the Ocean. This suggestion too is ridiculous. Why does our town want to LIMIT ANY FREE UNLIMITED PARKING ALONG OCEAN ROAD? Our recent 147,000 dollar beach carrying capacity study NOTED we need to make the beach more inviting as tourism helps our local economy. It makes absolutely NO SENSE to have ANY TIME LIMITED SIGNAGE ON EITHER SIDE OF OCEAN ROAD. Every candidate running for a new seat on the Town Council except 1 (Friday-Undecided) either emailed me or messaged me that THEY DO NOT WANT ANY TIME LIMITED SIGNAGE ALONG OCEAN ROAD AND NARRAGANSETT AVENUE. Thereofore, the idea of putting any more signage up along Ocean Road or Narragansett Ave now just prior to an election makes NO SENSE as with the potential of having a clean sweep with ALL NEW Candidates this November, in all likelihood they will order the signs down unless they show their dishonesty in failing to live up to their campaign promises after being recently elected. Out of all due respect Bill Seymour and Representative Carol Hagan McEntee, we Already Reached a Compromise regarding time limited signage. The Town recently placed up many new time limited signage on many of the side roads such as Boon Street, where people message me and tell me they ate at a restaurant like PJs and had a wonderful time and the food and service were great, but when they went to their car they got hit with a 50-dollar ticket, and that left a bad taste in their mouth. Let's NOT have anymore Time Limited Signage along Ocean Road as we do NOT want to hit some of those who are the most in financial need with a 50 dollar ticket for wanting to enjoy a day at the Beach or a visit to one of our local restaurants or shops. Representative Carol Hagan McEntee you and your husband have been blessed financially, and you can afford to be a member of the Bonnet Shores Beach Club and go to Narragansett Beach. Many people including myself came from humble beginnings and I have worked 2 jobs a good part of my lifetime. If I could save 10 to 15 dollars from not parking in a beach lot, I would. And sadly, with the North and South lots shut off from those who do not have a season parking pass and who want to go to Narragansett Beach, and with the West Lot getting filled in the morning and afternoons, people have NO place to turn but to park along Ocean Road and Narragansett Ave. If the State and the Town want to have a MONEY GRAB, then Representative Carol Hagan McEntee why NOT tell the Governor to take the 20-year parking lot lease away from James Procaccianti and Joseph Paolino as they recklessly abandoned the Lighthouse Inn, and in so doing they created tons of waste. You fought for legislation for banning plastic bags in grocery stores, SO WHY ARE YOU NOT FIGHTING AGAINST THE RIDEM IN THEIR RECKLESS DISREGARD FOR GALILEE and the tons of solid waste Procaccianti and Paolino created when the Lighthouse Inn was demolished? You mentioned the Town should litigate at a Zoom Meeting where the Narragansett Town Council and Mike Vocolla, lawyer for Procaccianti and Paolino were attending, but as a Representative you have failed to make a call to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed, and have them and you take a look at the 20-year street level parking lot in Galilee, and you can also tour to Seagull Breeding ground. The parking lot is in violation of the Town of Narragansett's Zoning and Comprehensive Plan. In Hopkington/Exeter vs. RIDEM, Hopkington/Exeter fought against the RIDEM (Browing Pond Case) and won when the RIDEM was violating the Town's Zoning and Comprehensive Plan. How can a seagull breeding ground and excrement on one portion of the leased land area and on the cars be good for Galilee and the environment? Instead of going after a money grab for the average hard working family with children, or individuals who do not a lot of money such as low income adults, a high school student or college kid or even some adults who are struggling who are trying to save 10 or 15 dollars by parking along the seawall, let's have the State and / or Town take over the street level parking lot in Galilee until a consolidated parking garage can be built and the State and the Town will take in millions of dollars rather than it going to corporate billionaires? If you and other elected leaders support affordable housing, then let's not put into place any policy that will make it more unaffordable for people visiting Narragansett. The RIDEM - Procaccianti - Paolino Connection STINKS OF CORRUPTION AT ITS FINEST IN THE OCEAN STATE. I would add, when you call Senator Whitehouse and Senatore Reed, please tell them we do NOT want Offshore Windfarms off of our Coast. Maybe you and the Senators can take a trip out to Nantucket and visit the closed beaches as a result of the Offshore Turbine that has crumbled into the sea. As Bill Seymour noted, we need to use our common sense before we act, and having time limited signage on ANY SIDE of Ocean Road or additional signage along Narragansett Avenue would be lacking commonsense to me and many others. Yes, if we want to get more money for our State and Our Town, Go After the Big Fish (Procaccianti and Paolino who are Corporate Billionaires), but let's not go after the small fish. You Would Think the RIDEM Would Know Better, as If You Catch a Small Fish, You Need To Release It Back into the Sea, and Every Fisherman Knows, the Best Catch is the Big Fish. Let's have our Town Council and Elected Leaders Go After the Big Fish.
