Letter: Home Saved Thanks to Quick Fire Department Response
Mariann Millette thanks firefighters for their quick response in extinguishing a fire started at her house by an outdoor mirror.

To the editor,
I am the owner of the house that was written about in The Providence Journal on Saturday morning, April 16.
On April 14 a freak occurrence happened at my home. A mirror hanging in an outdoor shower caught the suns rays and started the back of my home to smolder. It burst into flames and I watched in horror as the back corner of my house was a mass of flames. The firemen were here very quickly and saved my home from destruction.

I understand that there is discussion about closing the North End fire station. If I had to wait for the Pier station to get to my home, it would have been engulfed in flames. I surely would have had at the very least a huge mess on my hands.
Thank you to the firemen that saved my home, and to my gut feeling to stay home that day instead of leaving to go shopping.
