Letter: Keep Grady Miller

John Shaw of Friends of Hazard Castle sends in a letter of support for Grady Miller.

Letter to the editor:

I am a deeply concerned Narragansett resident, President of Friends of Hazard Castle and on the Narragansett Historical Society's Steering Committee.

For the first time in my years as a Narragansett resident (married in the Towers in 1994), we finally have a town manager trying to do the right thing and build a better future for the town of Narragansett.

Grady Miller has vision for the future of Narragansett and has had a very positive impact with his help in setting up an economic development committee and the revival of the Narragansett Historical Society. Grady is a political outsider and exactly what Narragansett needs for a better future.

Say NO to precluding a better future for Narragansett. Say yes, to Grady Miller staying on as our town manager, unobstructed. Say NO to replacing Grady with another insider. We need balance in our community.

In the past five years Friends of Hazard Castle has been one of the lead catalyst for raising awareness about our town's beautiful history and the revival of the historical society (conversations with Sallie Latimer). We need a town manager and town council who supports the preservation, beautification and marketing for tourism dollars of our five-star history. Right now Narragansett is surviving on our past laurels, but only operating as a two-star resort town.

Unbeknownst to most, there are many great businesses and local talents (Cupcake Madness proved this with a statewide food challenge in the Pier Village at the Village Inn in March). We need leadership with a focused plan to help local businesses and non-profits capitalize on tourism dollars. We can return to our former glory as a five-star resort town with the right leadership and vision. And that starts with Grady Miller.

As an internal auditor (even without all the facts), it’s clear that you are splitting hairs and on a witch hunt.

Please make the right decision for Narragansett's future.

It’s taken us more than 100 years to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off for a better Narragansett. Do not squander the momentum Grady has helped us achieve, because we will not be there to volunteer or support a return to things the way they have been for the past 50 years. We need to move Narragansett forward by preserving our past for our future, and that includes Grady Milller.

Sincerely,

John Shaw

Letter also sent to all five town council members. The meeting about Miller’s fate is at 6:30 p.m. For our previous story, click .
