Molestation Charge Dismissed Against Gansett Man
A charge of second degree child molestation against Daniel J. Garrahy, 46, is dismissed, and he pleads to a simple assault charge.

A child molestation charge against a local man was dismissed, and he instead pleaded no contest to a charge of simple assault in Washington County Superior Court on May 29.
Daniel J. Garrahy, 46, of 69 Conanicus Road, Narragansett, was ordered by Superior Court Associate Justice Melaine Wilk Thunberg to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence in return for his plea. He was also ordered to pay $90 in assessments, and a no-contact order was upheld between Garrahy and the victim.
According to court files, because Garrahy was charged with second degree child molestation, most of the information involving the case was sealed. Files identify the alleged victim of the molestation as under 14, but does not give a name, a date of birth or any identifying information. The details of the no-contact order were also unavailable to review.

Garrahy was arrested in March 2011 by Narragansett police. According to a Narragansett police warrant issued for his arrest, he was accused of two felony charges of child molestation in October 2000 and December 2002.
According to court files, prosecutors and defense lawyers requested files from Butler Hospital, Bradley Hospital, the Caritas House, South Shore Mental Hospital and the Chariho Regional School District.

Garrahy has several past arrests in the online criminal database for the Rhode Island Judiciary, but no other felonies.
- In January 2006, Garrahy pleaded no contest to Narragansett police charges of domestic simple assault and violation of a no-contact order. He was ordered to pay medical costs, to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence, and to complete domestic violence counseling.
- In December 2005, Garrahy pleaded no contest to a Narragansett police charge of domestic simple assault. He was ordered to serve a year of probation and to complete domestic violence counseling and substance abuse counseling. According to court records, he violated his probation and was ordered to serve four months home confinement.
- In March 1999, Garrahy pleaded no contest to a West Warwick police charge of disorderly conduct. He was ordered to complete a diversion program.
