Narragansett Police Appoint New School Resource Officer
Narragansett police Officer Austin Kearns will be assigned to Pier Middle School and will begin his role on Monday.

NARRAGANSETT, RI — Narragansett Police Chief Sean Corrigan has appointed Officer Austin Kearns as the new school resource officer.
Kearns will be the third resource officer in Narragansett Public Schools. He will be assigned to Pier Middle School and will begin his role on Monday.
Kearns has served with the Narragansett Police Department since 2019. He was previously a community service officer in Narragansett before becoming a full-time police officer. Kearns received a state citation in 2022 and a "Positive Guardian" recognition in 2019.

As a school resource officer, Kearns will maintain a safe and secure environment at the Pier Middle School and during special events, provide counsel and guidance to school administrators regarding school safety, build positive relationships with students and staff, and provide safety presentations and programs, Corrigan said.
"I am pleased to appoint Officer Kearns to this role and am confident that he will be a valuable resource to Pier School staff and students as our newest school resource officer," Corrigan said.

In addition to Kearns, Officer James Fitzgerald serves as the resource officer at Narragansett High School and Officer Ajane Scavone serves at Narragansett Elementary School.
